Published by: Runner's Relief Routes

Effective date: 17 August 2026

Last updated: 17 August 2026

This Privacy Policy explains what personal information Runner's Relief Routes ("the App", "we", "us") collects, why we collect it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. It applies to the mobile app, our website at https://runnersreliefroutes.com, and the related backend services.

By creating an account or using the App, you agree to the practices described here. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.

1. Who we are

Runner's Relief Routes is the data controller for the information described in this policy.

2. Information we collect

2.1 Information you give us

  • Account details — name, username, email address, mobile number and country code, and (where you sign in with a password) a securely hashed password.
  • Sign-in identifiers from third parties — when you choose Google Sign-In or Sign in with Apple, we receive an account identifier and, depending on your consent, your name and email address.
  • Profile details — profile photo, bio, date of birth, gender, and your stated location. These are optional and you may leave them blank.
  • Trusted contacts — the name, phone number, email address, and relationship of the people you nominate to be alerted in an emergency.
  • Community content — posts, photos, comments, likes, follows, and reports you submit to the community feed.
  • Restroom contributions — ratings, status reports, and details you submit about public restrooms.
  • Support messages — anything you send us through the Contact Us form, including your name, email, and the content of your message.

2.2 Information collected automatically while you use the App

  • Precise location (GPS) — collected while you are recording a run, while you are viewing nearby restrooms on the map, and while an SOS emergency alert is active. See section 3 for the full explanation of background location.
  • Run and route data — start and end time, distance, duration, pace, cadence, the recorded GPS route, split times, and how you rated the run.
  • Health and fitness data — heart rate, heart-rate or power training zones, calories burned, and recovery time, where you provide these or connect a device that supplies them.
  • Emergency alert records — the latitude and longitude at which an SOS was triggered, the alert status, the number of contacts notified, and whether live location sharing was on.
  • Device and technical data — device push-notification token, app version, operating system, and basic diagnostic logs (including IP address) used to keep the service running and secure.
  • App preferences — units, theme, map style, audio cues, notification toggles, and safety settings.

2.3 Information we do not collect

We do not collect payment card numbers, government identification numbers, contact lists from your phone, SMS message contents, call logs, or the contents of other apps on your device.

3. Location data, including background location

Location is central to how the App works, so we describe it separately.

  • While recording a run, the App collects your precise location continuously — including when the App is in the background or your screen is off — so that your route, distance, and pace are recorded accurately without you having to keep the App open. Tracking stops when you finish or discard the run.
  • While an SOS alert is active, and only if you enable live location sharing, the App collects and shares your precise location in the background so your trusted contacts can find you. Sharing ends when you cancel or resolve the alert, or when the alert's share link expires.
  • While viewing the map, we use your location to show nearby public restrooms and route options.

Background location is never used for advertising, profiling, or selling your whereabouts. You grant location permission through your device's operating system, and you can withdraw it at any time in your device settings — the App will continue to work, but run tracking, nearby-restroom search, and live SOS location sharing will not function.

4. Why we use your information

  • To create and secure your account and sign you in.
  • To record, calculate, display, and store your runs and fitness statistics.
  • To show public restrooms near you and let you contribute ratings and status updates.
  • To deliver SOS emergency alerts, including sending SMS and email notifications to the trusted contacts you have chosen.
  • To operate the community feed — posts, comments, likes, follows, and moderation of reported content.
  • To send push notifications you have enabled, such as milestone alerts, community activity, and weekly goal reminders.
  • To respond to your support requests.
  • To detect, investigate, and prevent abuse, fraud, and security incidents.
  • To understand aggregate usage so we can fix problems and improve features.
  • To comply with legal obligations.

5. Legal bases (for users in the EEA and the UK)

  • Performance of a contract — providing the account, run tracking, and community features you asked for.
  • Consent — precise location access, background location, health and fitness data, push notifications, and SMS alerts to trusted contacts. You may withdraw consent at any time.
  • Legitimate interests — keeping the service secure, preventing abuse, and improving the App.
  • Legal obligation — retaining records where the law requires it.
  • Vital interests — processing location during an active SOS alert in order to protect someone's life or physical safety.

6. How we share information

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with data brokers or advertising networks.

We share information only in these situations:

  • With your trusted contacts — when you trigger an SOS, the contacts you nominated receive an alert containing your name and location, and a link to your live location if you enabled live sharing.
  • With other users — your profile, community posts, comments, and any run you choose to share are visible to other users of the App. A run or post you share by link is visible to anyone who has that link.
  • With service providers who process data on our behalf, under contract and only for the purposes we specify:
  • Twilio — sending SMS emergency alerts and one-time verification codes.
  • Google Firebase — push notification delivery.
  • Google Maps / Google Places — maps, geolocation, and public restroom place data.
  • Google Sign-In and Apple Sign in — authentication, where you choose those methods.
  • Our hosting, storage, and email providers — running the servers and databases that hold your data and sending transactional email.
  • For legal reasons — where we are required to by law, court order, or a valid request from a public authority, or where disclosure is necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of you, us, or others.
  • In a business transfer — if we are involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred, and we will notify you before it becomes subject to a different privacy policy.

7. International transfers

Our servers and service providers may be located outside your country. Where personal information is transferred out of the EEA, the UK, or another region with transfer restrictions, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses.

8. How long we keep information

  • Account and profile data — for as long as your account is active.
  • Runs, routes, and fitness data — until you delete the individual run or your account.
  • Emergency alert records — retained as a safety record for up to 12 months after the alert is resolved or cancelled, then deleted.
  • Community posts and comments — until you delete them or your account.
  • Support messages — up to 24 months after the matter is resolved.
  • Diagnostic and security logs — up to 90 days.

After you delete your account we remove your personal data within 30 days, except where we must keep it longer to comply with a legal obligation, resolve a dispute, or enforce our agreements. Backups are purged on their normal rotation cycle.

9. Deleting your account and your data

You can delete your account and all associated data at any time:

  • In the App — go to Settings → Account → Delete Account and confirm.
  • By email — write to admin@runnersreliefroutes.com from the email address on your account, or from the account's registered phone number, and we will action the request within 30 days.
  • Online — submit a request at https://runnersreliefroutes.com/account-deletion.

Deleting your account permanently removes your profile, runs and routes, fitness data, trusted contacts, community posts and comments, and settings. Content you contributed anonymously to shared datasets — such as a public restroom's location or status — may remain in a de-identified form that cannot be linked back to you.

10. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you and receive a copy.
  • Correct information that is inaccurate or incomplete.
  • Delete your information.
  • Restrict or object to certain processing.
  • Receive your data in a portable, machine-readable format.
  • Withdraw consent at any time, without affecting processing already carried out.
  • Lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

If you are a California resident, you also have the right to know what personal information is collected and disclosed, the right to delete it, the right to correct it, and the right not to be discriminated against for exercising these rights. We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined under the CCPA/CPRA.

To exercise any of these rights, contact admin@runnersreliefroutes.com. We will respond within the period required by applicable law, and we may need to verify your identity first.

11. Security

We protect your information with measures including encryption in transit (HTTPS/TLS), hashed passwords, token-based authentication, access controls limiting staff access to what is necessary, and regular security review. No system is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. If a breach affects your personal information, we will notify you and the relevant authorities as required by law.

12. Children

The App is not intended for children under 13 (or under the minimum age of digital consent in your country, whichever is higher). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact admin@runnersreliefroutes.com and we will delete it promptly.

13. Third-party links and services

The App may link to third-party websites or services that we do not control, including map providers and social sign-in providers. Their privacy practices are governed by their own policies, and we encourage you to read them.

14. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date above and notify you in the App or by email before the change takes effect. Continuing to use the App after the effective date means you accept the updated policy.
